Here at St. Elizabeth, we prepare our middle school students academically, socially, and spiritually as they ready themselves for their high school journeys. Please read our brochure and the overview below to discover all that our middle school program has to offer.
Middle School students attend 8 classes every day. Math, Reading, Science, English, Social Studies, and Religion are attended five times per week while specials (Computer, Music, Foreign Language, P.E., Art) are attended 1-3 times per week.
The St. Elizabeth school day is filled with (9) 40 minute class periods. Our doors open at 8:00am with morning prayer at 8:20am, followed by first period beginning at 8:25am. Ninth period ends at 2:55pm with afternoon dismissals beginning at 3:00pm. Students have 4 minutes in between periods to visit lockers and change classrooms after each period.
Students enjoy a daily 10 minute morning break. They return to their Homerooms to have a snack brought from home and catch up with friends before continuing their day.
All Middle School grades will have lunch together daily from (12:49pm - 1:05pm) in the All Purpose Room (APR). For the hot lunch calendar, please visit our Hot Lunch page.
Students will have recess immediately following lunch from (1:05pm - 1:20pm). Weather permitting, all recess time will be enjoyed outside.
Gym class is held twice a week. Students will come to school dressed in their gym uniforms and may stay in those clothes throughout the day. On scheduled Mass days where gym class coincides, students will come to school dressed in their regular uniform, not their gym clothes.
In order to prepare students for high school, all Middle School grades will take both midterm and final exams. Midterms are held in January and final exams in May.
In order to effectively support their children during middle school years, parents should look to the following lines of communication for information:
Emails from Administration: Announcements regarding all school events, important academic information, and general community updates are often communicated through email from the Principal, Vice Principal, and Assistant to the Principal.
Home Room Parents: Class infomration and Home and School Association updates are sent out by the home room parents for each grade. These class lists are used to touch base about class fieldtrips, updates from teachers, volunteer information, and upcoming activities and events.
Plus Portals: For grades and academic assignments, plus portals is the method of communication for teachers. Parents and students can check for posted assignments and grades on a daily basis.
Clubs: St. Elizabeth School offers a range of after school clubs for our middle school students. Currently, the school offers a Robotics Club, Newspaper Club, Patrols and Student Council.
Sports: CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) team sports include softball, basketball, and soccer. St. Elizabeth School also has an active track team through the City of Rockville, and many of our students play on organized teams with their classmates through Rockville and Gaithersburg leagues.
Theater: Auditions for our annual middle school production are held in early winter/spring. Past performances have include Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, and the Little Mermaid.
An annual meeting is held in the fall to inform 7th grade middle school parents about the high school application process. Whether preparing to continue on in the private school system or transitioning to the public system, this meeting will give you the necessary information to assure your child is well prepared.
The HSPT is offered to our 8th grade students every fall. The test is administered at the school in the morning and students are dismissed for a 1/2 day upon completion of their tests.
